This 3 hour session has been designed for parent/carers who want to know more about exclusion and children out of education for other reasons and their rights. The aim of the course is to provide attendees who have children/young people with SEND with an introduction to the relevant parts of the law and guidance concerning suspensions/exclusion and children out of education due to illness or other reasons including ‘emotionally based school avoidance’. We will look at the following:

  • Suspensions and permanent exclusion; rights to alternative education; education offsite to 'improve behaviour; practical steps you can take
  • Children out of education due to illness and other reasons; rights to alternative education and the practical steps you can take if this is not happening; reduced timetables – are they legal?

There will be a Q&A session during and at the end of the training.
