Making a complaint with the local authority

If you are not happy with an Essex County Council service, you will to go to their website to make your complaint.

Make a complaint

You may find it helpful to read information from IPSEA (Independent Provider of Special Education Advice) on writing a complaint to the local authority.  IPSEA provide model template letters that you can use  for example,

  • Making a complaint about educational provision
  • Making a complaint about an Annual Review
  • Making a complaint about an Education, Health & Care Needs Assessment or an EHC Plan

IPSEA say "If you are making a complaint, make sure you follow the local authority or school’s complaints procedure, which might mean you have to enter the model wording into an online form".

What can you do next?

If you have followed the local authority complaints procedure and are still dissatisfied, you can complain to the Local Government Ombudsman

or, if the issue is urgent, you may be able to challenge the LA via Judicial Review instead.
